New Execise Regime

Wow, I can't believe it's been almost a month since my last (and first) post here. I didn't forget about this blog, just got carried away with doing other stuff. I kept updating it mentally lol, during workouts, but never got around to actually doing it while online.

I have embarked and a new and more challegnging weight loss program. I found that 1 hour a day of exercise (i.e. walking and keeping my heartbeat rate at 135 bpm) isn't enough. I am just not losing weight with that. Admittedly, these workouts ended up being 4-5 times a week. Life just got in the way. I dedicated my mornings to work (at the computer), then the kids get home, I spend some time with them and then do my walk in the afternoon, either alone with hubby watching over the kids at home, or with the whole family. Now, walks with the family tended to be less effective, speed-wise. Anyone who's ever tried going on a hike with a 3 years old probably knows what I mean. We walked with a stroller and a backpack, of course, but the kiddies still want off them every now and again, "to run" alongside mom and dad. Then, there are all sorts of things that make them stop (try butterfiles or any other insect, an interesting car on the road, or just a thought that crossed their mind and required a long speech - while standing in place, of course).

Bottom line was, I wasn't losing weight like this, and I have tried this pretty much over a year. So, time to speed things up now. I enrolled in a gym and decided to boost workouts up to 2 hours a day. What's more, going to be doing morning workouts. That means better, longer and more focused workouts, but it also means less, much less, work time for me.

I started this week. I wake up, help with the house and the kids, then sit by the computer for a couple of hours, barely managing emails and checking on stats and stuff, then it's time to get my gym gear and head over to the gym. I walk all the way there, for 20 minutes, then workout for about 80 minutes, focusing on things like the treadmill, the eliptycal and the exercise bike, and keeping my heartbeat rate high through out the workout. Then it's the 20 minutes brisk walk back home. All in all, two hours of exercise.

Then I get back home, eat something, take a good long shower and I just have to take a nap. It's amazing how tiring these workouts are for me. I hope it gets better soon. The thing most to be affected at this point in time is my work time. But after having discussed this for a long time with my husband, we have come to the decision that my health comes first. It would do no one no good if I get diabetes by the time I'm 40. The process has to be stopped now. So, looks like 2007 is the big weight loss year for me. Well, considering how much I need to shed, it might be 2007 and 2008 as well...
